The Global Knowledge 2022 IT Skills and Salary Report this year highlights the many ways for IT practitioners to increase their salaries. Obtaining one or more certifications greatly improves the profit opportunities and marketability of IT practitioners.

The research further demonstrates that it is in an employer’s best interest to pay for as much qualification preparation as possible in order to narrow ability gaps. According to Global Knowledge, the cost of missed production due to skill shortages can be as high as 520 hours and $29,000 per employee.

1. Highest Paying Cloud Tech & Cybersecurity Certifications by Country

IT workers in North America are the best-paid in the country, with an estimated annual wage of $115,906, which is 36% higher than the global average. The average salary in the EMEA area is $67,207, followed by Asia-Pacific ($63,125) and Latin America ($42,468). Wages are relatively higher in North America and Latin America than in 2022, but slightly lower in EMEA and Asia-Pacific.

2. Best Salary Paying Cloud Tech & Cybersecurity Certifications by Job Function

Aside from executives, IT professionals in sales and marketing receive the highest global compensation ($107,082), followed by cloud computing ($105,310) and risk management ($104,969).

Cloud workers in the United States and Canada earn 33% more than the North American average and 24% more than the global average. Brad Puckett, Global Product Director for Cybersecurity at Global Knowledge, isn’t shocked to see high-risk management salaries, given the rising need for this skill set.

“Among highly vulnerable market industries, such as insurance, banking, retail, healthcare, and supply chain management, managing risk is the single most important cybersecurity target,” Puckett said. “Salaries for practitioners who can effectively show competencies in this skill continue to grow.”

3. Top Paying Cloud Tech & Cybersecurity Certifications by States in USA

With a salary of $151,896, Washington, D.C. has the best IT salaries in the world, up 19% from 2019 till date. The top five state incomes in the United States are New Jersey, California, Maryland, and New York. In 2021-2022, California has the highest salary in the United States.

4. Highest Paying Cloud Tech & Cybersecurity Jobs certified by Region

At least one credential is held by 87 percent of IT practitioners, up from 85 percent in 2022 and just below the all-time record of 89 percent in 2021. For the second year in a row, Latin America and EMEA have the highest number of accredited practitioners (90 percent), while North America falls short of the global average.

Nearly 40% of accredited IT practitioners received their most recent credential in the last six months, and a comparable percentage were still working on their next certification when the study was conducted.

5. Best Paying Cloud Tech & Cybersecurity Jobs by certification category

Cloud computing certifications correspond to the best earnings in the country, with IT employees with Google Cloud certifications making an average of $161,484 a year. Enterprise design certifications (e.g., TOGAF®) are associated with the highest annual income ($107,827) in the world.

Project management, agile, and scrum certifications all cost over $100,000 a year on average globally. About half of the respondents to the Global Knowledge survey have at least one cybersecurity credential, rendering cybersecurity the most common group in 2022. Cisco comes in second with 22%, and Microsoft comes in third with 3%. (21%).

The five highest-paying certifications in the United States and Canada are cloud computing and cybersecurity. For the second year in a row, Google Certified Professional Cloud Architect and ISACA’s Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) are ranked first and second, respectively.

Two other ISACA certifications make the top ten, with CRISC (Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control) in fourth place and CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor) in eighth place.

The third-highest North American salary is for an AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, which is up one position from last year. AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner ($128,620), who didn’t crack the list last year, is ranked seventh.

Three AWS cloud certifications, including AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, are among the top five most sought-after IT certifications in 2022. CISSP is the second most sought-after credential in 2022, demonstrating that cybersecurity, along with cloud, will continue to be the most important investment fields in IT for the next year or so.

According to Global Knowledge, combining a cybersecurity certificate with a degree in another subject or technology will boost pay by up to 11%. The annual salary for CompTIA-certified practitioners is $83,984.

For the same people apply a cryptography credential to their resume, their annual pay jumps by almost $10,000. When AWS-certified professionals receive a cybersecurity credential, their pay rises by 6%. AWS-certified professionals currently earn some of the best wages in the country, with an average salary of $97,781.
